Lookit it's Blooket!!!
It's crazy to me how far we've come with technology. When I was a child, learning and reviewing was all done on paper. I know the teachers did their best to make learning fun, but what a world we live in now! To be able to create a summative review and every student gets to play a fun and interactive game while they're learning is amazing!! Everything about Blooket was fun. The music, the characters, the interaction...Adults loved is so kids will eat it up!!
I found Blooket very easy to use. It is an app that offers questions and games that are already created for a quick and easy review of many subjects, but it also allows educators to create their own sets of questions, and create their own games. Which is great for differentiating or creating something unique for your students!! I could easily use this app not only for math, but vocabulary for any subject, science concepts (maybe a "which one doesn't belong"), or just some fun trivia to keep students occupied when we have some extra time to fill.
Our group had so much fun sharing this app with our peers, and we even stumped some of them with our grade 4 math questions! We created questions based on 4th grade geometry and even I was surprised by the things that we needed to know! Apparently it's not only technology that has come a long way over the years. Children know more than all of us when it comes to technology, they may know more math too!! Overall, Blooket was a fun way to create a bit of healthy competition between our peers and have some laughs. I think it was a hit, and I know I will definitely use it in my future classroom. I can't wait to watch the smiles from my learners.
There is no shortage of apps to create and make learning fun, it's almost overwhelming! We were introduced to so many in our class, and every single one had a purpose and was fun to use. How do we choose? Start with one, see what you think, but also don't over use it! We can become too dependent on technology and forget that those little brains are developing. And as much fun as students have with these games many of them are also gaming in their spare time, or have their own devices like smart phones and tablets. So it is our responsibility as teachers to use these apps with an err of caution. We do need to keep up to date on current technology, but there is also a benefit to getting kids outside to enjoy the real world around them!! There is much learning to be done on and off the Smart Board!!

It was a blast getting to work on Blooket with you two, this app was very fun and very technical to play with. I agree with how far the learning outcomes of math has even come from when even I was in Grade 4. The tools we have access to now is so much more than what was available in the last decade. I think you have a great viewpoint in how we should use Blooket as a tool and avoid excessive use, finding that balance is very entertaining.
ReplyDeleteI also think blooket is great for differentiating and is a tool that we can explore and help make review fun for our students. We definitely can't be too dependent on this and technology when teaching our students. I agree learning can be fun in and outside the classroom!
